Odyssey: episode-5

Dear all

It has been a long story and its obvious people tend to lose patience and thats why I give you the last part of this journey. For those who wanted to know the last twist here is the end, hope you enjoy reading it.
So with some relaxing bits in the story, the journey was going nice and easy. The guys talk begun. Suddenly Sunny came up with an idea, to have a bath in nearby tank. Water was coming in the tank through pump and flowing to canal. The small tank was ideal to have some fun in water. The guys had some fun and played in water and gave them the much needed bath. Pal noted Anu and Meenakshi were sitting outside and giggling something far off at house. After sometime guys felt hungry and decided to go for lunch. They reached home to see onion, chilly, chapatti and a kaddi in bowl. Pal knew its going to be tasty but the guys were a bit upset. They had no other options but they sat. Each plate had 3 chapattis, and initial comment was would be glad if I eat this much but when guys started none of them stopped at 3. That’s the taste of village food, in the mean time Anu went in and got some chapattis to serve. Meenakshi who was playing with kids stopped talking and started from other end. It was Meenakshi who reached Pal first and asked if he wanted to have some chappatti’s Pal refused as he had few in his plate but by the time Anu reached he took one, Meenakshi had an ugly look. A cold war between the two gals had already begun, let me tell you 2 gals would never let other gal know that they are in war with other they would always behave as they are the best friends ever.
Lunch got over and the group was divided in guys and gals, the gals with usual chit chat around. Meenakshi was trying to break the rule and trying to have a word with Pal but Pal said Meenakshi it would be better if we stay away for sometime, but actually she wanted to tell that her family will reach the other side of bridge and she would be leaving by evening. But Pal didn’t even bother to listen to that. The whole afternoon went of like this and guys and gals enjoyed in their groups, gals chitchatting and trying to know each others love/married life and guys talking about who is the best gal and how to reach to them. It was 5 in the evening and water level was now considerably low and they knew they would cross the bridge soon.

All of sudden Anu comes in and introduces to group saying that she is Anu and she would like to take Pal away for some time. As she needs Pal’s help, the whole group making different noise nodded and said unanimously that he is all your’s Anu, Please take him. Pal in an awkward situation was wondering what is it that Anu had to pull him out of group. Anu then explained that Meenakshi was leaving and she would like to cross the bridge and reach other side to be with her family and she wanted to say goodbye to you. Meenakshi was glad to see Pal (not so sure about Anu) she explained to Pal that she wants to cross the river and she would like to reach to her old father, who came to take her away and was waiting on the other side of the river. Pal was glad to get this offer as he would get rid of Meenakshi soon so he agreed with pleasure to the invitation.

But what Pal forgot was that Meenakshi was carrying lots of stuff and he has to carry the big luggage to the other side. Pal started walking towards the river and it was not so dangerous as some people were crossing it but the flow was still strong and water level was till knees. Pal could feel the danger that if he slipped he would be taken away by water, he was some 10 mts away from one end he heard someone calling him. Pal looked back to see both gals standing at other end, with heavy luggage was annoyed and he was angry, but he reached the other end and asked politely why did they call him back? Anu said ” dude you have to take the lady on the other side, she does not know to swim”

Pal: (with initial thought that it would be great if she flows away with water as she was only crying all the time) okkiee so how do you want to go across?
Anu: Dude be a man and take care of cute gal, hold her hand make her cross the bridge and let her reach destination safely. Pal just wanted to get rid of Meenakshi so he agreed and said “Lets go Madam”.

It was a scene of Veer Zara where Pal was crossing River Bridge with Meenakshi as Sharukh crossed border for Preeti. The flow was making Meenakshi to loose balance at times but Pal held tightly, which made Meenakshi feel good. They reached other end Meenakshi introduced Pal to her father, (mind you guys never take such invitations as they are high risk ones) He is Pal and all throughout journey he has helped me a lot.
Uncle (with smile): Where do you live Pal?
Pal: (sensing the danger) I live in parvati nagar
Uncle: Oh that’s near to our house why don’t you come along with us?
Pal: (now knew what to do so) Thanks uncle but the thing is I have too much of laugage and I would go with bus its okkie you carry on and I have kept my laptop in bus so I need to be back there, thanks for all the help uncle
Uncle: god bless you dear do visit us sometime (Meenakshi also repeating it in same tone)
Pal :ya uncle now we know we would keep meeting so catch you later uncle. Bye (and running away like a crazy rabbit). After reaching the other side Anu was laughing cause she knew what had happened on the other side and she was the mastermind of this plot.
Anu: So how was the meeting? Had fun?
Pal: What fun you think in a formal meeting? It was not a matrimonial meeting so just hi and bye (avoiding the topic and reality)
Anu: Really, I don’t think so, you definitely are hiding something
Pal: If you know everything why asking? Why do you want to get me killed Anu?
Anu: Meenakshi really liked you and it was your gentle nature that impressed her.
Pal: (annoyed and irritated murmured the gal who should get impressed is not yet impressed)
Anu: I wish Avi was here he would have enjoyed your company.
Pal: (closed his eye in disappointment, not again lord) Don’t worry you will get to see him in few hours.
Anu: Pal, he is no more, I am a widow and I think I must tell that to you now.
Pal: (suddenly cautious and feeling sad for Anu) I am sorry I was not aware of that, what exactly… okiie I will not ask anything I am a bit stupid at times so pardon me.
Anu: No its fine, he is always with me and I am quiet comfortable to talk about him cause that’s what keeps me alive and gives me hope to fight every single day. Please don’t show this pity on me I am just another gal with just another story. Life always gives you joy and sorrow, its you, who make the best out of it, I am making the best out of what life gave to me. Avi taught me how to live and I am glad he was with me through the best phase of my life. I hope all those guys who were behind me in guy gang would now stop teasing you and me for something going on in between us.

Pal felt bad but he was impressed with the spirit with which Anu was living and he admired Anu for that throughout his life. Unfortunately he was not aware what future had in store for him and Nadia. Sometimes life gives you a picture of your future and don’t even realise that. Pal was happy that he got a great company. The traffic started to move by then and it was 7 in the evening. In few minutes they crossed the bridge and they kept moving slowly till 10. People wanted to have dinner but the driver and conductor wanted to reach destination as soon as possible. Anu asked Pal to do something. Pal said ” How can I do anything in this?”
Anu: Cause you have done all throughout the journey and you will do it here again.
Pal: They wont listen you know they are crazy.
Anu : Do anything but get me dinner I am hungry
Pal: Anything you sure?
Anu: Just do it you crazy idiot.
Pal: (Went to conductor and said) Dude my journey has been excellent so far if you can please stop the bus it would leave an everylasting impression on me. All I want is if you can stop for dinner so that I could spend some more time with her.
Conductor: We are getting late go home and eat.
Pal: This is how i manage to do it and you are letting me off by not doing so.

After a bit more of convincing the conductor agreed, pal came back victorious and was happy. Anu knew what pal has done and what trick he has played. Pal you really are big time opportunist? Pal replied “I am what I am, and thats what I am”

The bus stopped and Anu ate something she hugged Pal and said “If it would not have been you, the fun of this journey would be missing and thanks for making this journey interesting.

Finally they reached their destination and this journey came to an end. Passengers promised to stay in touch and shared contacts, Anu wished Pal a great future and thats how it all came to an end.

A journey with tears, smile, hugs and fights just like life. Pal loved travelling and he did that all throughout his life and no matter what happened all along his life he did managed every phase of life pretty well. I always appreciate his philosophy of not living to be happy but being happy to live. He was a master and people may not agree with that and may call him cheater, liar or a looser but for me he was a warrior and today when he is not alive I pay my homage to this champion.

Hope to see your comments. Thanks for following the series. It was great to hear from everyone on blog.

Dear all

There have been allegations on the author of being gender biased as you know the author has no intent to hurt any community by any means. He is just trying to bring out the basic nature of people, if you do not feel the same, author does not want to improvise it onto you. He just tends to bring the best out of his story by sketching the characters and their behaviour. If its not you, please don’t get bothered you will get a chance to meet few of them like that. Meeting people reminds me of where I left the story last time. So let’s get on with the story and take you through this classic journey. Once Anu left it was Pal and Meenakshi again. Pal still was in no mood to talk but it was Meenakshi who wanted to apologise for her rude behaviour. She started the conversation with an apologetic tone and made it clear to Pal that it was not Pal’s mistake it was the situation that she was coming from which made her behave in this fashion. Pal was unmoved and was in no mood to spoil his mood so far, and that’s when gal’s use there ultimate weapon or should I say the last arrow in their armour to knock out guys. Yup you guessed it right its TEARS. Pal had to do something but he was scared if doing something could again go the opposite way, so he just gave a handkerchief to Meenakshi, which was a stupid thing to do, (guys let me tell you honestly when they say they wana apologise just accept their apology and let things move on else you are going to face a flood of tears). Can anyone tell what should Pal have said/ done to avoid this?

Pal then held Meenakshi’s hand and said come I will show you something, he took Meenakshi to farmland and showed the greenery, this did not help Meenakshi by any means. That’s when Pal got annoyed, and irritated he asked “What’s your problem gal, do you know anything apart from being sad and annoyed? Do you know any way of enjoying life? That’s when Meenakshi felt bad but there was something which was holding her from loosing temper. She replied in a calm tone “There was a time when I use to enjoy life and love life, now life has played an ugly game and does not want me to be happy. It’s a revenge that life is taking from me.”
Pal: (shocked and even more annoyed) Do you really think this could ever happen? It’s you who make life not life makes you. So the way you think or do makes or decides your fate for life, not life deciding fate for you. How can you be so bad in interpreting things?
Meenakshi: Pal you haven’t been in love and that’s why you don’t know what it means to be heart broken. How does it feel when someone just turns back with you?
Pal: (wanted to tell that gal that if you keep cribbing like this all day anyone would run away, not only just your lover) Well it happens and one must enjoy the good times as much as to be sad at bad times but that does not mean that you moan for it all the time. Ok tell me what happened?
Meenakshi started her story of she being a jolly gal, believing in dreams and living a good life and while working she met her dream guy and she went behind that guy and they started talking, they had good time and how good they were together. How they celebrated their first Valentine’s day and with passing time how serious they became for each other only when one day she came to know that the guy cheated her and she was shell shocked. (Well it was another typical story that you will get to hear from every other person in love, so not going in detail).

Pal decided its better to sit on the big boulder in between the farm and let Meenakshi calm down, so he asked her to sit and sat next to her. She kept crying and Pal kept consoling her, he held her hand and said ” Look Meenakshi its all part of life and I may not have fallen in love but all I know is it’s a feeling and you can live with a feeling all your life you don’t need the other person to accept it or reject it, no matter he/she cheats on you and moves on. You felt for the other person great, it was the other person’s misfortune that he could not understand how great were your feelings. He was unlucky on this front; there was nothing wrong with you. So stop crying and start living dear.”

Something just happened and she kept her head on Pal’s shoulder and started to cry even more bitterly murmuring that How can he be so rude to me? I never did anything wrong to him. Pal put arms around her shoulder and said look Meenakshi life is not a sweet juice it’s a cocktail of everything and you must know how to beat the taste and give life a challenge to bring more opportunity. It has happened and it will happen in future it’s you and only you who can overcome this situation no one else would come and help you out. That’s when she stopped crying and that’s when Pal noted that Anu is coming towards them. Pal said to Meenakshi now stop crying else Anu would feel bad and would say that I made you cry and I am in no mood to take this blame.

Anu in the mean time came to Pal and said “Did I disturb you two”? (Pal in a state of shock because he was expecting Anu to be with him if not sleeping and she came back too early).Pal quickly responded “We thought you slept!” Anu (with an encrypted smile) “Ya I was trying to sleep but could not because its too humid inside bus”. Pal was happy to see Anu, as he was in no mood to listen to Meenakshi’s story and she cribbing over every small thing.

At this point Anu knew what Meenakshi was upto but was unaware what Pal was thinking. Pal then said lets roam around hope we find something to eat as I am feeling hungry now. Anu and Meenakshi looked at each other and they knew they were upto same thing which Pal had no idea of, they agreed and went along with Pal. Pal was happy to roam around in fields, after walking down the fields and crossing the rows of trees he could see some huts and it seems that it was a small group of people living there who had farm nearby. He invited the other 2 to explore the area; they followed Pal and knew that he can help them out knowingly or unknowingly. Pal knocked at one of the hut and asked if we can use the handpump outside and have some water. To which the owner agreed, it was a cloudy afternoon and the family was having lunch. Pal washed his face and was drinking water, he noted that both the gals were not liking it. So he went to them and said “Look this is the purest water that we can have and that’s how I was born and brought up so don’t give an ugly look, if there is something you need let me know, I would try to make some arrangement.”

Anu: Look Pal for guys its easy but for gals you must understand few things and its not always said.
Pal: Oookkk so you are hungry don’t worry I will get it, let them finish the lunch. In the mean time the family was done with lunch and the head of family came out and had a curious look at Pal as he was with 2 gals, and was wondering what Pal was upto? Pal gave a smile and greeted the elder man and said that there is a big traffic jam near by and so many passengers are stuck, we are just one of them and these gals are looking for some shelter as they are not feeling well and this humid weather is making things worst. I was thinking if you could help them out, I would really be greatfull to you (in their local dialect). The man was impressed to hear the local dialect he felt as if the guy is a local and should be living in near by area only, so he asked which place you belong to. Pal: I was born and brought up in Khargone and bistan, now I live in Indore. Man was impressed to see local guy progressing in life and he called the daughter-in-law and asked her to take the 2 ladies in and help them out. Pal was then engaged in long talk regarding what he did and how he made it big and does he not feel like coming back to old village? Pal knew that if he has to get things right for ladies he need to come to point, so he kept replying and impressing the other man and finally went on to ask the elder man that if they can provide food for at least 3 of them. The man was ready to offer service but he said look Pal, I am a poor person and I hope you understand this. Pal immediately brought out Rs 50 note and handed to elderly man, and asked if you can please help out other passengers also as we have kids on board and they are hungry and god would bless you if you can charge them nominally and provide them with some food for today.(Well when it comes to getting blessed from god we do it without hesitation, that’s the good things about we the Indians) Man said I can only help till I have stock in my home and let me see what I can do the best for you. He went in and came back after few mins in the mean time Pal was shocked to see Anu in local dress. It appeared she just had a bath and was trying the local dress there. Pal gave a smile and complimented her with hand gesture that she is looking good. In the mean time Sunny came looking for Pal and said “dude where the hell are you? Did you have a look at river, the level is going down but people say traffic wont be clear till the evening. (Sunny then noticed Anu in local dress) Okkk okkk Pal I would go get some fresh air (this refers to a cigarette guys might be know this) catch you later. Pal knew what Sunny was upto so he asked sunny to wait and have lunch. Sunny in state of shock, you got to be kidding me business here also? Pal how can you convince people just like that? Pal said “Its magic dear enjoy it, come lets call others as well and enjoy the lunch”. While they were going towards the bus Sunny was asking “Dude we struggle to get one gal and you are going around with 2…. You really are 2 much, both gal hugging you both gal behind you, What exactly you do? Pal was walking along with Sunny and he was asking how Pal does it and asking for tips. Pal trying to be ignorant and as if nothing is going on tried to hide things but Sunny was stubborn; he made a comment that “You can say that to me but not to other passengers and conductor who saw you hugging Anu in bus and Meenakshi in field. What do you think we are fool? Pal then came to know that the news had spread out and acting wont be the right thing to do. He then invited the passengers to have some lunch, the lady with child and others. Everyone praised Pal for making there journey easy. By this time Pal was surrounded by guys and everyone was asking how he does it and is he always like that? Pal just said wait and watch…
So with ease in journey and journey becoming interesting how do you think would be last twist? Is there anything that can happen between Pal and Anu? See how the story turns up in the last episode. Have a great day and thanks for taking time to read.

Odyssey: episode-3

Dear all

Thanks for liking the story so far, the thing about this story is its too long to be put in one blog, if I do you would miss some of the fun, so thought lets break it up and put it one by one. I appreciate your patience to read till the end and taking time to comment, it gives me enthusiasm to move ahead. But I was upset a bit because people did not present their view and didn’t bother to answer any of the questions that I am putting in blog. May be you just want to let it come one by one to you or you just don’t want to answer them, anyways my blog continues with another twist in the story.

The river at its full flow and no way to go, it was time that people put up their hopes and start enjoying the weather. The rain had taken a break and if it would have rained at that time it would have taken atleast another day to reach their destination. But luckily weather was nice, cloudy yet dry. Pal enjoyed this weather and especially when he was on the countryside. The breeze with soothing odour and lush green scene around anyone would feel good. But as you say with good things comes desires to make them best, which are endless. So while Pal was enjoying the weather and looking around river Anu came in and said “Good morning Pal, Oh my god what the hell is this? How are we going from here? How long it will take?” Pal interrupted and said ” wow o wo  hang on lady, I know you are curious but please shoot your questions one by one. I know you were sleeping and you don’t have a clue of where we are and what had happened so please be patient.” Pal then explained the complete story and estimate of time it may take to reach destination. Anu was tensed and was worried. Pal drew Anu’s attention from delay to the beauty that nature holds, he took her close to river and showed how dangerous flow was, he showed the little huts around and the pets in that hut. She was delighted. All of sudden few more passengers gathered around one of them had a kid and kid was crying for milk. Anu made a comment that do we have any shop around where we can get milk, cause if we can get milk we can help the kid and I was hoping I could get morning tea, but now it seems a big dream to me.

Pal was quick to react to it, he said “Why don’t your follow your dream and try to make it true?”

Anu: Where do you think I will get tea?

Pal: Did you forget the famous alchemist dialogue, if you really wish something from heart the whole world conspire to bring it to you?

Anu: Looks good in books and movies, don’t bug me Pal.

Pal just made a move and went around huts suddenly he found a kid playing out of hut he went to them and asked if their dad is inside? The kids rushed in as if they were scared and they had seen a ghost. The next thing that emerged from house was a lady in typical village dress with covered face. She was annoyed and angry and asked look my husband is a drunked and if he took some money from you, I apologise and we would pay back the money as soon as possible. Pal was in state of shock as because he didn’t uttered a word and he was blasted with apologise what surprised him more was that lady in house had no clue of outside traffic jam. He then cleared his throat and in local dialect he replied gently that he was not a money lender and he wanted to know if there is any milk shops around so that he can get milk for the kid crying.

Lady: There is no milk shop here as we have our own pet and we are self sufficient we have a buffalo, so you won’t find a shop around.

Pal: (enlightened by those word had a great business plan) Can you please some milk for family and consume rest for the passenger who are stuck in jam? This would help the hungry kid and you can earn some money by opening a small tea stall.

Lady: Look I don’t know how to run a shop sorry I can’t help.

Pal: Don’t worry I will make sure you don’t have a problem, but please help take all the money you earn and you can pay back to some of the lenders. Please help.

Something struck lady’s mind may be paying back the lenders, she agreed and said what do you want?

Pal: Can we get some milk and tea? To which lady said a yes and despite being covered face he could see her white teeth and a big smile.

Thus began the business of a tea stall and, in next 15 mins the tea stall had swarm of customer around it, Pal handled the customer well and asked them to form a queue so that it is convenient for everyone. But it was a wrong suggestion and no one listened. Anu jumped in and said if you don’t come in queue you are not getting anything. We can’t handle you if you are not in queue. Such was the power of lady’s word that either customer went to come back later or they stood in queue. The first cup of milk was given to feed the child and in one hour Pal made some 600. He was selling tea for 3, but looking at demand he raised the price to 5 and wrote the note the price increase is to help the lady who helped us in getting morning tea to pay back her loan. Anu and Pal were getting along well and by the time they were ready to move from there they had made 1500 for the lady and Pal taught the kids around who use to go to school some simple mathematics and they were not handling the money. Before they left Lady came out and went to Pal’s feet to give a big thanks, Pal just went back and said Its your hardwork, make sure you pay back all the money and try that your husband give up the ill habit of drinking and educate your children so that one day they can run this tea shop more effectively. To all my readers, please if you get some chance to remove some of the evils that exist in our society please don’t be hesitant to speak about it, just like the way Pal did for illiteracy and drinking habits.

Pal and Anu were so happy that they helped the family Anu was impressed with what Pal did.

Pal: Did you enjoy the morning tea?

Anu: Not only the morning tea was sweet but it gave me a great refreshness.

Pal : Now do you believe in alchemist?

Anu: Pal you are genius. (All of sudden the perception of Pal had changed and she knew that Pal is not that bad as she was thinking.) It was 10 in the morning when they started and they went on to discuss on lots of things ranging from evils in society and their solution to love. Pal introduced his philosophy of love and Meenakshi introduced her. Pal said that he like all other guys fell for every gal that crossed his path and still feels that it can happen anytime. Anu on the other hand made the point that you can let your heart beat so easily and you cant keep re writing names on heart, it just beats once and that’s your true love, so my friend Pal you haven’t been in love so far. To which Pal disagreed. Anu kept teasing Pal and Pal maintained the same tone that he has always been in love. Both of them gelled along well and were enjoying themselves, the conversation and chemistry was grabbing the attention of passenger and right from conductor to passenger at the last seat knew that they were enjoying the journey more than anyone here in the bus. All of sudden Meenkshi came and said would you mind if I can join in? (By this time the whole bus was buzzing for Anu and Pal, and Meenakshi heard it. So she tried to enter the group) Anu and Pal welcomed Meenakshi with smile but it was Anu and Pal chatting on their own and Meenakshi just watching them and smiling. She tried to enter the conversation at multiple stages but she failed. She was growing impatient and wanted to make her presence felt. She wanted to break in the conversation to grab some limelight and she was more annoyed cause she was expecting Anu to talk with her instead she kept neglecting the point that Meenakshi was making. It could have been another outburst but she was patient enough to set things right.

It was 11:30 and they stopped again only to find another bridge was lower than previous one and the water was just gushing around, one could imagine going close to river in last bridge was dangerous but this one, it was deadly. Also it so happened that a jeep who tried to be adventurous and try to cross it was taken aback by water and the passenger along with jeep were lost in flow of river. Everyone was dead and a truck was stuck in the middle of the bridge. This scene was worst then the previous one. To add to the misery there was no mobile network and the only thing they could see was farms and trees. The traffic was building up and the jam was growing with every single second. Pal, Anu and Meenakshi saw the scene and they knew very well that they wont make home by the evening. Anu gave Pal a smile and she said well I am going to sleep I have no intention to stay awake. Pal welcomed the idea and appreciated the thought but said that he would rather stay awake and enjoy the farms. Meenakshi took this opportunity to stay with Pal and make Pal believe that she was not that bad as he was thinking. So now a cloudy afternoon Anu went to sleep, Pal and Meenakshi together. Another traffic jam and this time no huts around the road all you can see is trees and crop.

Will it be another war between Meenakshi and Pal? What’s going in Anu’s mind? How long will it take to get over this journey and how will passengers enjoy this break? How will passenger react to this? Do you expect another business idea from Pal? If so what is it? Is there any story that will build up, if so would it be between Anu and Pal or Pal and Meenakshi? Wait for the next episode which will reveal another part of story and we would see how it builds up the last episode. Hope you enjoyed the journey so far and would leave your comment.
